Arash Tavighi

Research Associate

Ph.D.

E-mail: arashtav[at]ece.ubc.ca

Education

Ph.D. Electrical Engineering – The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, 2017.
M.Sc. Electrical Engineering – University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, 2008.
B.Sc. Electrical Engineering – Azad University of South-Tehran, Tehran, Iran, 2005.

Background

Arash contributed in developing two transmission line models: Frequency-Dependent Line Model (FDLM) and Discrete-Time Fourier Series (DTFS). The FDLM is a time-domain model which is numerically more efficient than the existing line models while it physically coincides with the behaviour of a real line. The DTFS is a frequency-domain tool which is used as a reference solution to improve the accuracy of the time-domain models. The DTFS is more accurate, numerically more efficient, and much simpler to implement than the existing frequency-domain solutions.

Research Interests

  • Modelling and Simulation of Power Systems
  • Electromagnetic Transients in Power Systems
  • Applications of Signal Processing Algorithms in Power Systems
  • Frequency-dependent Transmission Line Modelling
  • Power System Studies: Dynamics, Transient Stability, Load Flow, Fault Analysis, and Protection
  • Power Quality Analysis, Monitoring, Measurement, and Mitigation
  • Application, Modelling, and Control of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS)
